Kia ora / Greetings I hope you are well and looking forward to the festive season as much as I am.

It has been a big year and I enjoyed seeing so many people at our recent Port Hills Christmas Party at the Cashmere Croquet Club. What a great facility that is.

It is a time to reflect on the year past and to plan and look forward to 2018. Wellbeing is so important for everyone, especially for our young/tamariki and elderly/kaumatua and it is important to me that the environment we live in is a nurturing one with consideration of all people within it as well as our natural environment.

Not everyone has family to share Christmas with and it can be a lonely time, particularly if they have lost a loved one or live away from other family members, or may be a new resident in New Zealand.

I remember working overseas in my earlier years and having that feeling myself at Christmas. Now I am fortunate to have my wife Chris and our four sons to share special occasions with. Although they are 20, 21, 23 & 25 Chris still does a Christmas Stocking for them filled with lollies, fruit and little things. I hope everyone feels the warmth and companionship of Christmas.

If you have the opportunity to make someone feel needed and feel loved, just a thoughtful gesture, no matter how small can make a huge difference.

This year amongst other things I did cards for the “Sending Love” campaign.

Sending Love is about people and communities coming together to make a festive gesture towards another person who may experience loneliness over Christmas. It is one person putting love and thought into a card to put a smile and a sense of feeling remembered and loved onto another person. Next year if you’d like to participate the website is sendinglove.co.nz

Our Port Hills electorate Executive Committee made up of dedicated volunteers has achieved many things this year. That includes our membership of which our target for renewed and new members is the 2nd highest in Canterbury/Westland and that is due to the hard work of Robyn Struthers, our membership coordinator assisted admirably by Adrienne Pavelka. Well done ladies and all our Executive Team.

I am only one man but surrounded by our National Party supporters I feel like I am 10 men, as I accomplish so much with your support, your thoughts and wise words and of course your commitment to the National Party.

Meri Kirihimete me nga mihi o Te Tau Hou. Ka mihi mahana

Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and a safe and enjoyable New Year

With warmest regards
